Texas is, I believe, the only Big 12 school that doesn't recruit JUCO's. Even OU recruits JUCO linemen when they have a shortfall in their rosters. Most 5-year linemen, don't start until they are juniors. They usually play special teams or back-up in their earlier years. If Beaty and Ricker can get two good years out of a JUCO linemen, that's almost as good as a 5-year player.
Out of 18 offensive linemen, 1/2 are upper classmen and all are at or very close to 300 pounds. Coach Ricker now has to come with 8 players who can start or back-up during the 2018 season. If Coach Riker can do that as well as develop the underclassmen, KU has a good chance having an offense that can score both through the air and on the ground. Our defense is above average if they don't have to play 3/4's of the game on the field. If we can come out the gate with all three phases of the game working, we may have the opportunity to have 4 or more wins this season.
Both Meacham and Beaty will determine the starting QB together. If Coach Riker produces a Big 12 capable offense line, Bender has the talent and experience to be the starting QB. Had Willis started behind an experienced offense line as a Freshman, he would be KU's starting QB this season. All KU coaches know that without wins, this will be everyone's last season. Hopefully, everyone including senior and junior players will be giving it their best shot this season.
One of the lead requirements of the new AD will be to improve the current KU football program. Hopefully, whomever is hired will give the current incumbent coaching staff a chance to see what improvements they can produce in the win-loss record this season before making a change.

If he was coming to Kansas, he probably would have stayed in Kansas City. He'll end up at North Carolina or another big-time program instead.
