If I read correctly, this applies for only six months.

That remains to be seen. He is at least recruiting high school players who have 4-5 years to be developed. If his staff is able to develop players, there will be improvement. If not, then the needle doesn’t move that much.

Of course it’s his fault about how poorly the team was. Sure, he inherited a bad situation, but he was at KU for four years and left with a team that was no better than it was when he arrived.

It amazes me how some people love to manufacture outrage. KU was ranked third in preseason poll and Baylor was ranked 16th. That Scott Drew’s team performed to where they will probably get a #1 seed is more worthy of being named Coach of the Year than have the Preseason #3 team end up at #1. And that is not to take away anything from Bill Self’s accomplishments this year.

He was under no pressure to recruit JUCO. He created the pressure and elevated the expectations by recruiting JUCO and transfers repeating the mistake made by Weis. Had he focused on recruiting high school players and on development, his record wouldn’t have been any worse and the program would be in much better shape.
