? The University of North Carolina will celebrate the life of former head basketball coach Dean Smith during a public memorial service at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 22, in the Dean E. Smith Center, the school has announced.

The family will have a private church service on Thursday morning for the Kansas native, who attended KU and played basketball for the school before going on to a legendary college coaching career.

UNC asks the public to respect the family’s wishes regarding Thursday’s private church service, as space will be limited.

The family has said that in lieu of flowers, individuals should feel free to make a memorial contribution to one of the following organizations: The Inter-Faith Council for Social Service, based in Chapel Hill; the Dean E. Smith Opening Doors Fund and/or the charity of their choice to honor Smith.

Spreading wealth: Overall, Texas Tech has had 10 different leading scorers this season.

“That’s both good and bad,” coach Tubby Smith told the Lubbock Avalanche Journal in advance of KU’s 73-51 road win on Tuesday night. “We really haven’t scored a lot of points. That’s been our biggest issue offensively putting points on the board. That’s one of the challenges we have. It’s bad because you don’t know who you can count on. Sometimes you can kind of write in this guy’s going to get his 15.”

KU, meanwhile, has had eight players lead the team in scoring this season.
