You're agreeing with some opinions, not facts. Let's give the coach at least 2 full seasons, not 1 1/2. Who knows, maybe we'll start improving towards the end of the season and pick up some top notch defensive recruits, (or even hire a proven Def. coordinator) which could make all the difference in the world.

Report

Micky Baker

No, he's agreeing with what will happen if the stadium is only half full and they can get, 2 star recruits(if they're lucky).

You see, this team is athletic enough to not give up 70 and 69 points. This coaching staff isn't competent enough to get these players to play to their ability. Well, it is partially on the players but mostly on the coaching staff. FIRE GILL NOW, and save $20 million in revenues in the next three seasons!

Do you remember our defense in 2003 and 2004? It was among the NATION'S BEST DEFENSE in Division 1. That's right, and Mangino didn't have the same talent pool as Gill has. Is the memory of our fans this short?

You can't build a program if you can't get the top and second top recruiting classes in KU's history to hold the opponent to under 60. This group is talented enough, but the coaching staff isn't.

If those 2003 and 2004 teams had any kind of an offense, those teams win 8+ games easily. Back then, the defense was miles ahead of the offense and when the offense caught up to the defense, 2007 happened. The current state of affairs really aren't that different, now the offense is miles ahead of the defense. Like those early teams that with an average offense would've won significantly more games early on, so too would this team if the defense was just average. It amazes me that people want to prop up KU's defense under Mangino who as an offensive person and had very little to do with the defense's success other than bringing Bill Young with him. Why wasn't KU's offense any good led by the offensive genius of Mangino until year 5 of his tenure?

Angus0199

Way off. The team isn't giving up. We are. Big mistake to fire Gill midway in the season. Let the guy grow some. Character is built through adversity. Listen to John Wayne's comments in Mclintock!, you'll understand.

Great call on the Prince solo. Channeling Hendrix right down to the octaves on two strings.

I think Texas is going to pop oSu. Or at least play them very close.

I also think OU is going to score less than we think, once they get well ahead.

The worst Defense in NCAA history gave up 553 ypg. Kansas is giving up 556. If we would have lost to OK state 56-7, Honestly I would have expected that. To all the Manginos teams were always competitive, here 63-14 against TTU in 08. My point is, that if the Big man was still coaching, OSU still beats us by over 40. But we are having a record breaking bad defensive year. and its unacceptable.

11 years, 1 month ago

Report

Kirk

We get it. But you have to remember, this team is extremely young.

I think we need to see how they do against KSU, ISU and MU.

11 years, 1 month ago

Report

Ethan Berger

They are really young, and I understand. Which is why I would be okay with getting beat like 56-7. I don't expect us to stay in a lot of these games. But when you breaking records on being bad, then somethings wrong.

11 years, 1 month ago

Report

Ethan Berger

So how does he finish last in his last year, then has the play the Big 3 and he wins 6? No, and OK state would have crushed us if Mangino was our coach. Not at the record breaking point, but it would have prob been a over 50 point game from them. Mangino struggled beating really good teams. When we to the BCS, we played a weak baylor, A&M, and OSU. My main concern is how bad our defense is. Those 28 point games make it alot easier to fire someone.

OU not winning THIS time - KU in a surprise upset, KU 72 to OU 69

KU Sports writers are not KU sports fans. They need to believe more, and like the players mention, if fans show up and make noise it does make a difference.

Remember Ron Prince and the K-State power towels? Well that was a bad idea. But support helps everyone, and having the KU website flooded with B-ball stories just before this big game is a real letdown as well. Where is our F-ball cram session? Crimony.

ROCK CHALLLLKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, to channel Mr. Lee Corso, put down the crack pipe my friend. Actually, that sounded like me trying to channel Lee Corso.

Dillons used to give away football tickets for purchases of toilet paper. Was that a good idea?

But, I love your spirit. Amazing that it hasn't been cracked. Beside the definition of true fan in the dictionary will be your avitar, well if you had one. Perhaps you will use a photo of the scoreboard after this game for your avitar. A fan can dream right?

"KU Sports writers are not KU sports fans. They need to believe more, ..."

Um, no, actually they don't. They need to give their opinions. They're not SUPPOSED to be fans, they're supposed to be journalists and/or columnists. It would be awfully boring if every writer on this site always believed KU was going to win no matter what reality was. I'd rather know what they really think.

Thanks once again to the LJW for their idiotic policy of randomly getting rid of caps. The word "supposed" was SUPPOSED to be in capital letters.

Well OK. I accept KU Sports Writers can have their own negative opinions. They look a lot like vegas opinions though, and fans are generally the people reading this stuff, so..... don't you think it would be nice to have a more biased reporting? To me what is BORING is the guaranteed negative reporing on KU F-ball, talk about predictable.

Do other F-ball teams have biased reporting? Yes they do. And one friend of mine turns off the ESPN chatter while watching their team and synchs their school radio broadcast with it so that he can hear the commentators claim they get touchdowns when they don't quite, and next to hear about awful calls against his team which were actually good calls. It's hillareous, but I totally approve. Being a fan - that is, a reader of this site - I would like more pro-team and less surprise when they do well. And put the B-ball down a tier the night before a big KU game, it's not even a B-ball game for heaven's sake.

Thank you for showing other conferences why KU wasn't worth adding during the realignment mess. You continued "support" will no doubt ensure that KU has a bright future in the Mountain West, C-USA, MAC, or WAC. Maybe, just maybe with your support, KU can sneak its way into the Sun Belt. Or if KU's really lucky, maybe they will have enough support to drop football altogether.

Who has KState beaten this year? Their big wins are over a team tied for last in the Big 12 and a team sitting in last place in their division in the ACC. Not exactly impressive when you take away preseason hype and the names of the schools.
