When it comes to updates on the status of withheld Kansas basketball freshman Billy Preston, Jayhawk fans will take absolutely anything they can get their hands on.

That's what made a series of late-night Tweets from Preston's mom on Tuesday more than a little interesting.

It's unclear what prompted the string of Tweets, though message board nonsense and Twitter trolls seem like a fairly likely answer.

But regardless of where the inspiration came from, Preston's mom broke her silence on the matter and shared a few of her thoughts on just how hard the past seven weeks have been on Preston and his family.

by Nicole Player

While that Tweet certainly did not shed a ton of light on exactly what has been happening with Preston and the deep look at a vehicle he was driving during a single-car, non-injury accident back in early November, Preston's mom hinted both at the fact that she believed Preston still will play this season and at more input to come from her in the future.

by Nicole Player

What's more, she praised her son for his attitude and loyalty to KU and his teammates and coaches and also said that she was tired of hearing people attack her character and that of her son's.

by Nicole Player

It remains to be seen how much longer Preston will be held out of competition or if he will return to the floor at all this season.

KU coach Bill Self and a handful of Preston's teammates have said they, too, have been impressed by his attitude throughout the entire ordeal, but Self said recently that he was unsure how quickly Preston would be able to help the team on the floor if he is cleared because his frustrations over the situation have allowed his focus to slip.

The most recent update provided by Self indicated that KU had finished its review of the case and passed the information along to the NCAA.

Now, KU is merely waiting on the NCAA to make a ruling, which could come any day now that the NCAA offices are back up and running following the holiday break.

she has a reason to be mad and I hope Preston is vindicated by being cleared this week and he comes back and dominates..Billy is a kid with dreams, and sitting out is only hindering him..people need to stop being so harsh and try to be positive

Whomever is trolling him and his mom (hope you are reading this Ms. Player) are flat out dumba$$es. The only ones I feel who deserve trolling are the NCAA bureaucrats that are taking so long to clear him, or whatever the case may be, while he misses playing time, chances to improve not only his team but his own stock for a potential professional future.

He'll probably have to stay in school another year because of all the time he has missed and coming in during league play will be a massive challenge for him. I'm sure he'll produce, but who knows, maybe it will all work out better, and he'll be a beast next year and have a great career here followed by the pros.

I think the reason why they waited so long was they wanted to gather more than enough evidence hoping that the NCAA would finally get the info and be like "whelp, you did guys our job for us, he is cleared to play" without it taking months..tell ya what though, any chance of him coming back another year is out the door..if I were him, I wouldnt want to come back seeing how it all played out

My question is this: players before entering into a schollie are told/should have been told not to accept anything. However, like a past player when a parent or parents accept such gifts it dooms the player. Not saying it happened but this is how it is with the multi-billions NCAA.

I cant wait until the conferences tell the NCAA to go suck it and form their own entity. Then again it will end up like the current BS in time.

I love all the comments bashing the NCAA. Especially this one! Do you all have any idea what the NCAA is and/or who controls it? The NCAA is not some evil empire without limits and controls. Universities created the NCAA and representatives from the member schools sit on the board, hire the president, make the rules, etc. So, the conference don't need to tell the NCAA to go suck it, because they ultimately ARE the NCAA. They can collectively make any changes they want. It's like saying we should tell the government to "suck it" and form our own. That's what we did 240 years ago and is why we have the government we have now.

We have an amazing fan base at the same time that we have the one of the worst, it becomes really apparent in situations like this.

Its really hard, without knowing the facts, to cast judgment on anyone here, whether it be Billy Preston, his mom, the KU administration, or even the NCAA. Saying he is "only a kid", well, at that age and even younger, there are consequences to the actions or decisions we make. Was he misled about this car? Did he just accept it without checking? Those questions and the answers would go to whether he deserves any punishment. Did KU's administration not do their job up front when they were made aware of this car? Should they have done this investigation way back in the beginning, if it was quite some time before this accident? How long has the NCAA had this in there lap? A few days, weeks, or months. And again, keep in mind none of this would not even be going on IF the car would have never been given or sold or whatever to Billy. So I'm not sure anyone can be blamed OR cleared until we know more.

Barry, thanks for covering almost every previous comment again for the NTH time. I still have just one question...why didn't Preston "himself" just have it towed or drive it away, and call Mom instead of coach Self?

Of course, there is the possibility that the vehicle was in his possession within NCAA rules, right? I mean, that is a possibility?

When did we become a country that convicts people before the trial? Shameful.

Actually Barry, it is really easy to cast judgments without any knowledge. Over and over again people have been doing. Heck, even your speculations, insinuations tend to be cheap shots in that direction.

Take mom's advice, and just be quiet.

no, my questions are not cheap shots, they are factual. If you do not like the facts, that is your problem. Keep in mind, if all was okay here, the KU administration would have NOT even turned this over to the NCAA. None of us (fans, Billy, coach, his mom, etc) but it appears something is amiss for KU to take the action it has. So call that speculation or cheap shots if you will, but it was done by KU for a reason.

The reality is, the only "move" the NCAA has anymore is slow playing everything. It took how long to NOT give North Carolina the death penalty in maybe the most egregious acts of maintaining "eligibility" we've ever seen? Think how often Self and his compliance staff -- one of the most well funded and best ones out there -- have seemingly done far more work than the NCAA on issues... they've be questioning?!?!?
The NCAA doesn't need to be 'tweaked', it needs to be blown up and started over.

I'll put my two cents in:

1] No matter when he gets to play, Billy Preston will make a positive impact on the team. He has been playing Division One talent on the AAU circuit for years. He has been practicing with the team from Day One. His physical presence already makes him the second biggest man on the team and his natural ability will provide results no matter what.

2] Rebounding, defense and five more fouls translate into a valuable addition to the rotation.
That formula could apply to Silvio as well.

3] Billy's Mom has every right to protect her son but KU fans have every right to question the circumstances. The happy medium is to have faith in Bill Self to get us out of this mess.

4] I am constantly attacked by KU haters who profess that Bill Self is the NCAA's fair-haired boy and that Kansas has, is and always will get away with murder as the NCAA's signature program. This situation with Preston as others in the past would seem to prove that concept invalid.

5] KU still has 16 conference games, a match-up with Texas A&M and probably 3 Big 12 Tourney games....that's 20 more games to get this squad completed and ready for The Dance. We need these two young men NOW!!!

6] On a personal note to Billy's Mom. If you are reading this site, if I have posted anything you feel is unfair to your son, that was never my intent and I apologize. I have seen Billy on the bench cheering for his team every game and that means a lot. You have to understand, Kansas Basketball is so much more than a sport to us...it's an integral part of our lives. Our passion runs deep and it runs forever. Let's pray this is all resolved as soon as possible.

Billy Preston, the Kansas team and all their fans are put through hell over a $20k Dodge. Generational Institution Fraud vs one $20 Dodge. The NCAA is a corrupt fraud which needs to be dropped by Power 5 Football and Basketball. Reorganize the entire conference structure for those sports, break off to form a responsible organizing structure and move into negotiations for multimedia marketing asap. .

To get a "clearer financial picture" on an automobile...that takes 6 weeks to complete.

We don't know much more about the automobile. But I can tell you one incontrovertible FACT...the circumstances surrounding that car MUST be MIGHTILY CONVOLUTED! I am not aware of ANY financial circumstances surrounding ANY car that could not be NAILED down in 6 days...let alone 6 weeks. Really name me ANYONE you know...who would take 6 weeks to talk you through their car financing.

Six weeks...the thing speaks for itself...and no one with the guts to confront Bill Self with dead stinking tar heel on the table..."Bill six weeks can only mean that MUCH WAS UNCLEAR about the financial picture on the automobile. How is it possible?" There is a leader of this program...and they call him COACH...BILL SELF. WE have been down this road before...and its starting to smell like TOBACCO ROAD.

How do we look down the recruiting road...if I were 18 year old on the phone with KU...I certainly be asking "COACH...HOW IS IT POSSIBLE...WHEN OH WHEN will your star recruit play?"

I would suggest...after 6 long weeks...once a school submits an informational referral to the NCAA, the presumption of innocence should be with the student. Billy Preston should not suffer the shuffling of documents at the NCAA. No young man and his family should waste precious time at college without some actual finding.

Let the players have their college lives during NCAA administrative process.
