KU coach David Beaty gives update on QB competition

Kansas head football coach David Beaty gave an update on the quarterback competition during the final preseason press conference on Thursday.

Peyton Bender, Carter Stanley and Miles Kendrick are all competing for a chance to take the first snap in the season opener against Nicholls State on Sept. 1 at Memorial Stadium.

Beaty, who is entering his fourth season as head coach of the program, believes this weekend's scrimmage will be key when it comes to deciding on a starter.

Omg give me a break. Its always one more, one more. One more practice and lll know. One more scrimmage and lll be sure. One more rep and lll have an answer. Remember in school when he had to take a test, you always went with your 1st gut instinct. The more you sat around and pondered the other possibilities you usually guessed the wrong answer. This is what he seems like hes doing now.

It seems like he should go with 2 options if the line holds up stick with Carter or Bender who can stay in the pocket read the defense and throw pass. 2nd option is go with Kendrick if the O-line can't hold up, gonna have to go with more option reads more quarterback runs and decisions on the fly.

What he can't do is what he did last year and start switching out quarterbacks in the game or week to week.
