1 - Malik Newman: Had six points in the first half and finished with 32. Scored all of KU’s 13 points in overtime. Also made overtime possible by playing terrific defense on Grayson Allen on the final possession of regulation. Named outstanding player of Midwest Regional, adding to similar hardware he won the Big 12 tournament. Complemented his 32 points with seven rebounds, two assists and three steals.

2 - Svi Mykhailiuk: Missed three consecutive 3-pointers with less than 10 minutes left in regulation, but came through in clutch by hitting one to tie the game with 26 seconds left. Totaled 11 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, and did great job of guarding Marvin Bagley III with the help of trapping teammates.

3 - Devonte’ Graham: Played 45 minutes and turned it over just twice. Had 11 points, six rebounds, six assists and played some disruptive defense when dropping off his man to harass Bagley.

4 - Udoka Azubuike: Terrific 19 minutes before fouling out with nine points, eight rebounds (five offensive), two assists and a blocked shot.

5 - Lagerald Vick: Shook off shaky start to finish with 14 points, three rebounds and two assists.

6 - Silvio De Sousa: Life-saver on the boards with 10 in 26 minutes. Also scored four points and blocked a shot. Had three turnovers.

7 - Marcus Garrett: A terrific offensive rebounder, he had two of them in eight minutes, scored four points and had two assists, playing in the middle of the Duke zone for part of his time on the floor.

Simply giving Malik the number one spot doesn't seem like enough. Incredible performance down the stretch. RCJH

Malik has been insane since the big12 tourney. With him at this level and Silvio manning up like he did, I think we can beat anybody. We'd be #1 overall seed if Malik had played like this all season, but i'm not complaining.

Svi's defense against a much bigger and talented freshman (likely the #2 choice in the NBA draft) was plain phenomenal. He gave his all on the defensive side and then to have the strength to hit the game tying shot in regulation was special.

After watching Malik for the first time in the "pickup games" in Italy I proclaimed him to my colleagues as the best player on KU's roster. My prediction looked foolish for most of the season, until he embraced the Self way and began playing free within the system. He has shown himself to be special. Very excited for this team. Early in the season, Malik took a beating from online KU fans. They just wanted him to leave.

Now that Newman has learned to play Bill Self’s way, they are praying that he will return next season. He probably won’t.

Karma.

Malik was going to declare after his freshman year but wasn't high on NBA radar screens. He decided to go to where he could be challenged and coached and was wiling to sit a season. I'll guarantee he is a big blip on the NBA scope now. He and his dad will look at it and decide but surely he is gone.

if he wants to go, then he deserves to go. He owes nothing to KU or us fans. And we're overcommitted in recruiting. Somebody's gotta go.

Svi deserves a lot of praise for the work he has put in to become a better defender. Even at the beginning of the season he was still widely considered to be a bit of a swinging gate on defense. People just blew right by him. Now, he's far from a liability.

Much of the same can be said about Malik.

The progression of these dudes has been remarkable.

The only thing I don§t like about these ratings, is that they separate a person from the team.
We are winning now because, Malik is playing great, Devonte and Svi are solidly doing their jobs as they have all season, (take a look at the pass to SVI, it was fantastic.) LaGerald has got it going, Doke is back, Silvio is a man-child, Garrett is playing defense, and not afraid to drive it inside, and of course, Mitch has been solid. Put all that together, and

We the team, KU, get my no. 1 rating. No shot from SVI, no overtime, no pass from Devonte, no SVI shot. No, defense from Malik on Allen, that ball falls through.
