Even though Kansas hasn’t signed many Texas high school football recruits in the past two seasons, the roster still has a distinct Lone Star flavor to it.

Since offensive tackle Charles Baldwin and defensive end Josh Ehambe still are listed on the roster, even though they won’t play this coming season and no longer practice with the team, we’ll include them in this regional breakdown of the KU roster.

(Only players who originally came to Kansas on scholarship count. For example, linebacker Keith Loneker spent one year as a redshirt before going on scholarship.)

Texas: 26.

Florida: 8.

Louisiana: 7.

California: 5.

Kansas: 5.

Arizona: 3.

Hawaii: 2.

Maryland: 2.

Michigan: 2.

Mississippi: 2.

Oklahoma: 2.

Arkansas: 1.

Bahamas: 1.

Connecticut: 1.

Illinois: 1.

Ohio: 1.

South Carolina: 1.

Here for the sticker shock of everyone on this board realizing Ehambe isn't playing.

Even though Texas is a football hotbed even in El Paso where I live, it's too bad there aren't more than 5 scholarship players from Kansas on the roster. Depending upon the year in question, there at least 5 to 10 Kansas high school players who deserve a D-1 scholarship.

Unfortunately the majority of the top 10 (D1) KS players choose to go to Manhattan, Norman, Lincoln or elsewhere. That might change with better results on the field but my guess is it will take a few years to get significant momentum in that direction.

I wonder if anyone will be spouting the nonsense that Coach has failed to recruit TX. This is really that much more of a testament to the recruiting of the entire staff he has assembled; to be this nationally represented with only 3 Ws.

72 minus the 2 named leaves us with 70?

I think there were previous comments that it doesn't include the rest of the recruiting class that hasn't reported?

Or our newest grad transfer?

Will we have 80 players this fall?
