Is this total compensation? Where is Roy Williams on this list?

CHRIS HOLTMANN makes more money than Bill Self???!

Roy is 41st. Holtmann's so high because he's at the beginning of a contract. Self is closer to the end of his 10-year deal than the beginning.

Holtmann's contract is also artificially inflated by the Bulter buyout. Self is really currently third.

Self will get his raise when we make the Final Four again.

Exactly.

He still has years left on a contract that pays him the 4th highest in the country.

If he wants a raise he needs to at least make the Final Four again.

His school is a private Catholic school and doesn't have the sources that public schools have.

Whaaaat??!! My guess is two fold here: 1. You’ve never been to the Philadelphia Mainline. 2. You don’t realize that Norte Dame is a private Catholic school

Do Self and Izzo actually make exactly the same salary or is that a typo? Of all the possible amounts it seems a striking coincidence that they would be the same right to the dollar.

Izzo - $4,359,979

Look what we paid our football coaches who couldn't win diddly squat. I say double Bill's salary and make it another ten year deal!!!!

Honestly coaches pay are out of this world. In the pros players get more than the coaches in college the players get close to squat.

No, Tony. Bill Self hasn't made enough Final Fours to justify doubling his salary. Hell, he hasn't made enough Final Fours to justify his current salary.

IIRC - Coach didn't take as much a raise as he could have in 2008 because he wanted the $ to go into the players' dorms. My guess is there are plenty of other ways that he has directed budget toward assistants, staff and other areas that make the program game. Not terribly different from his/their foundation that donates to the community. He/They just aren't as Self-centered as others.

Self doesn't have to pay income tax because he lives in Kansas. That would add to his take home pay.

Why wouldn't he pay income tax in Kansas. I do.

Brownback changed the rules benefiting high pay employees. But the recent Legislature decided to change back so now they pay state income tax.

Can we give Beaty's salary to Bill Self since Self has had more Big 12 wins in the past 10 days (2) than Beaty has had in three YEARS (1). Just saying.

Let's be realistic, it's much harder to recruit, train and play 85 scholarship players, plus 20 walk-ons than 13, plus 5 walk-ons. Football requires almost 20 different skilled players where as basketball requires 5. A Trae Young can make a basketball team into a winner. It takes many more skilled football players than just a QB to create a winning team.

Salaries are very difficult to justify worth. Texas has the ability with their resources to pay way more than TCU or Baylor or nearly all schools.

Good point. Baylor & TCU are both small Catholic schools with alumni bases without the ability to compensate their coaches.

Baylor is a Baptist school with an endowment larger than K.U.s and the majority of other Big 12 schools. Those Baptists love to donate!
