Agree. I'm not really excited about it either. It's not a good move for KU. We have nothing to gain in this match up. We have the series record, we won the last meeting, we are the national program. They are....not. Dumb move to play Misery.

Yup! As a CA based Jayhawk, this is great news! I just signed up for ticket pre-sale: https://espnevents.com/wooden-legacy/...

You might be right. The NBA has no problem prospecting. But it doesn't always work out that way. See Mario Chalmers, for an example. He went #34 in the 2nd round.

You nailed it. It's more of an award of "who did better than we expected." People just expect great things from KU and company. That and with the NCAA allegations, I think the AP is hesitant to pick KU. March sadness continues...

Right. That I do understand.

March sadness continues. This is a head scratcher. I'm not sure how they both ended up on the 2nd team. I don't understand how they took votes from each other, maybe someone could explain it to me.
I believe Dotson would have needed a special NCAA tournament run/performance to get first team. But Dok was the most dominant big in the NCAA all year. Team's literally changed their entire defensive scheme to try and stop him. He set the record for highest shooting percentage ever. Either way, congrats to them both for a special year.

No Jeff I don't. I actually think the NCAA should award KU a regular season national championship award for this year. My point was only that it gains more validity when an outside group (i.e. the Helms Athletic Foundation national championship) does the awards vs the university just making things up. The Helms award I believe was valid before we had the tournament as the way for an unbiased organization to crown who the best was for the year.

It would be bad form to claim it for ourselves. That would be tacky and it would be very amatur. I can't imagine it would feel 'right' to the KU players and staff to say 'we are national champions!' without winning those 6 important games. I do hope there is a way to recognize the top of the country status in a way that is meaningful. KU would have been the overall number 1 seed in the tournament, and that, in many ways, it akin to being the regular season champions. I'm not sure about a banner, but it is always appropriate to recognize achievement. Let's hope another organization/group steps up to recognize the KU team as they deserve.

Some thoughts on the team and the players:
1) Dotson should, and will go pro. It is the right time for him. I am confident that missing out on the tournament will make him think about returning for a minute or two. But I believe he should strike while the iron is hot.
2) Dok finished his career as the best % shooter ever in NCAA history.
3) Who gets national player of the year? I think it should go to Dok, with both him and Dotson being 1st team all Americans.
