Oklahoma ends KU soccer's 2-game winning streak

The Kansas women's soccer program dropped a 3-2 decision at Oklahoma on Thursday night, ending the Jayhawks' two-game winning streak that featured a pair of victories over ranked opponents.

Kansas sophomore Brie Severns, who earned both Big 12 and national player of the week honors last week, kept her hot streak going by scoring KU's first goal and assisting on the second.

Severns' goal in the 24th minute tied the game at 1 and the two teams remained deadlocked heading into halftime.

The Sooners (5-9-1 overall, 1-4 Big 12) struck first in the second half, taking a 2-1 lead 10 minutes into the final frame, and Kansas (7-9-1, 2-5) tied the match at 2 apiece with a goal from freshman Raena Childers, who was named the Big 12 freshman of the week last week.

That goal came in the 61st minute, and Childers' older sister, Rylan Childers, also picked up an assist on the goal.

The two teams remained tied at 2 until OU's Leonie Weber drilled a shot to the top right corner of the goal that beat the Kansas goalkeeper and proved to be the game winner.

Oklahoma out-shot KU 19-14 on Thursday night, including an edge of 13-7 in shots on goal. The Sooners also committed 16 fouls compared to nine for the visitors.
