KU volleyball picks up 1st road win of year in thriller at ISU

In what turned out to be the Kansas volleyball team’s sixth five-set match of the season, the Jayhawks prevailed in a thriller Friday night at Iowa State.

KU’s Elise McGhie set up Jenny Mosser for the decisive kill in extra points, as KU won (23-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-19, 17-15) on the first night of the two-match series in Ames, Iowa.

The fifth and decisive set was tied at 9, 13, 14 and 15 before KU (3-8) completed its rally and put ISU (2-9) away, making the Jayhawks 2-4 in five-set matches on the year.

Mosser, a graduate transfer from UCLA, put away a match-high 25 kills in KU’s first road victory of the season.

The Cyclones took the first set by just two points, but KU evened the match at 1-1, sealing the second set with an Ayah Elnady ace.

In a tight third set, KU led 22-21 before the Cyclones wrapped it up with four points in a row.

But the visitors bounced back in the next set, leading 10-4 early with a Mosser kill off a McGhie assist. The set got tight late, before KU extended the match by scoring the final four points of the fourth set, staying alive with a clinching ace by Lacey Angello.

Friday marked the Jayhawks’ first match in nearly two weeks. After KU concludes its series with ISU on Saturday (4 p.m. start), the Jayhawks will return to Lawrence. Their final home series of the season is scheduled for Nov. 19-20 at Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena, versus Texas Tech.

Another nice win last evening, hopefully we can keep it going with another win this afternoon.

Kennedy Farris is making a difference as libero. She doesn't make a lot a "great" plays but she consistently makes the "routine" plays and that's making us a better and more competitive team.
