KU women's basketball team falls short at TCU

Despite a valiant comeback effort, the University of Kansas women's basketball team fell short at TCU, suffering a 58-53 loss Sunday afternoon inside Schollmaier Arena.

The Jayhawks, who trailed by just 1 point with a minute remaining, couldn't complete the come-from-behind attempt and fell to 11-7 overall, including 1-6 in Big 12 play. Kansas trailed 35-23 at the halftime break, which was the team's second-largest deficit at the half during Big 12 play.

The senior duo of Kylee Kopatich and Christalah Lyons led the Jayhawks, combining for 34 of KU's 53 points. Kopatich finished the day with 19 points, eight rebounds and a career-best six steals, while Lyons added 15 points, six assists and four rebounds.

A trio of Horned Frogs led TCU (14-5, 4-4) with double-digit scoring. Senior Jordan Moore posted a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while adding six blocks. Senior Amy Okonkwo and junior Kianna Ray added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Kansas will play host to Oklahoma at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Heck of a comeback...on the road...without Jessica Washington. So close. Frustrating!

The same old song we have consistently heard countless times before this anticipated conference loss. Soon we will be told a strong foundation has been built and that the future looks bright until the next season comes bringing more losses. Such is the life of a conference doormat.

I agree David. It was one heck of a comeback. Our guard play can compete with MANY schools. Our post play really seems to struggle. Having Washington out all year last year seems to be lingering into this year. We lose 3 good guards after this year. It’s about time for Brandon to pull a rabbit out of his hat. I think his leash is getting shorter.

So what kind of bullcrap, cupcake non-conference schedule did this team play?

Actually I believe this team is better than the past, and playing in a very difficult conference.
We have tremendous guards, but frankly our interior game is virtually non-existent.

So if you want to criticize, then criticize failure to recruit any kind of real post presence.
Franklin and Helgren are big and big, and decent rebounders, but there is no post scoring threat what-so-ever.

Look at the scores and we are getting closer and closer, but without a real scoring threat in the post, there is not going to be a great difference in wins, especially in the conference.

PS. Iowa St. is killing people, and we actually gave them a hell of a game. TCU is 4-4 in the conference, and we played without Washington, the good news is that the 6-2 center from Lawrence, actually might be part of what the doctor ordered.

This is still a bad team that feasted on cupcakes in the nonconference. It's time for Schneider to move to his next job because he is not the man to Fox Kansas women's basketball.

Aaron. Aaron. Aaron. Don't be bringing reality and logic into this. Just because this has happened every year since he got here and he's won a whopping 6% of his Big 12 games??? C'monn man. Another Zengy debacle.
