KU football's 2020 class picks up commitment from Florida prep DE Chris Jones

Kansas University football recruiting

The Kansas football coaches’ 2020 recruiting class already boasted commitments from prospects residing in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Alabama, Michigan, California, Minnesota, Iowa, Ohio, Missouri and Kansas. Now they can add Florida to the list.

Chris Jones, a three-star prep defensive end according to Rivals, announced Sunday night his commitment to the Jayhawks.

“I am truly blessed to say that I will be committed to Kansas University, where I can showcase my talents,” Jones, from Coconut Creek, Fla., wrote in a tweet that revealed his decision.

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 217 pounds, Jones reportedly had also received scholarship offers from Florida State, Nebraska, Maryland, Penn State, Central Florida and several other programs before declaring his intentions of playing at KU.

Jones traveled to Lawrence in late July for a Les Miles camp, as reported previously by Jayhawk Slant.

“The people are great and the atmosphere here is different from anything I've seen,” Jones told Jon Kirby of Jayhawk Slant a few weeks back. “Everyone here is so nice.”

The newest verbal pledge for KU brings the program’s 2020 recruiting class to 24 strong — all of them are high school prospects.

All verbal commitments, of course, are nonbinding. The earliest any of KU’s recruits can sign and make their ties to the program official is December.

We might not have to worry about kids backing out before December. Mile might have a backlog going.

Mercy what Les & Staff has done with this recruiting is beyond insane , I realize these kids have to stick -- and yes we all understand there will be de-commits BUT this class is at 24 players and ALL are High School kids - -hmmmm NO JUCO - -just goes to show with the right staff - in place that YES there is good quality kids that can and will commit- - -you just have to be able to recruit them - v-get off your butt's and try.

I really not quite sure how we getting these last couple - thought we were at our limit - - a lot of juggling going on - but Dam you have to give this staff props - -not we got to translate this into wins on the field to stat attracting even better - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BAB

I agree with the high school comment. In his first class, with just a couple months available to put together a recruiting class, I think Miles & Co. were so limited in time and saw some immediate positions of need, so he brought in a small handful of juco players.
In this first FULL year's class, 24 high school players (100%) so far. That's how you build a program for the long term. I hope to see a few guys red shirt this year (esp. linemen) and a few more the next year. Building things the right way. A positive sign for sure.

So here's the thing., last year at this time l believe we had 0 or 1 recruits committed to KU football. Our other "headcoach" or more aptly named head cheerleader was either the worst of recruiters or the program was just so bad no recruit was remotely interested.

Now that KU has decided to not go the overrated name coach (Weis) or the inexperienced inexpensive assistant coach (Beaty) or the in over his head head coach (Gil) you see that recruits will actually come to KU under a coach with national exposure and a vision. Now nothing is guaranteed, does this mean that KU will all of a sudden be looked at as the next Oklahoma in the Big VII no of course not. But this can be looked at as a new starting point. Never in the history of the program have we seen a class like this so early in the year. The season hasn't even started and with no sense of how we good bad they will be or if any progress is being made on the field these recruits committed this early to Miles and KU. Yes Beaty got Pooka and Harris to come but that was mostly Hull's doing. The only lasting impact Beaty will have is hiring Coach Hull and establishing the Kansas to Louisiana pipeline. Now l'm sure Miles would have done the samethings but with Hull already in place and the LA recruits already here there is a comfort zone coming in with recruits and coaches from LA already here for the new recruits. The stench from KUFB resonated from coast to coast no one was remotely interested in coming so Beaty loaded up on JUCOs now that the KU administration is perceivably serious about football now we can at least take comfort win or lose they are giving it a serious effort.

This is on Miles and the coaches, the recruits are aware of KUFB past and what they are selling is a new vision and the potential of the program moving forward. Bravo to them for getting the recruits to believe in it enough to commit.
