KU thrower claims gold at German U20 Championships

Kansas track and field thrower Lea Riedel won the women's shot put at the German U20 Championships, Sunday in Rostock, Germany.

Riedel, who will be a sophomore next year, won the U20 national title with a personal-best throw of 16.08 meters (52-9.25 ft.) to best the next-closest competitor by over a meter. The throw was better than her previous-best mark of 15.24 meters (50-0 ft.), which she achieved at the 2018 Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships to finish in eighth place.

In addition, the new personal best moved Riedel from No. 7 on the Kansas all-time performers list to No. 5.
