Dorance Armstrong invited to NFL Scouting Combine

Mock draft projects KU DE as 2nd-round pick

Kansas defensive end Dorance Armstrong Jr. (2) comes in to wrap up Iowa State running back David Montgomery (32) during the first quarter on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017 at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa.

Former Kansas football defensive end Dorance Armstrong Jr. will be one of 326 prospects hoping to impress pro coaches and decision-makers at the upcoming 2018 NFL Scouting Combine.

The league announced its full list of participants Tuesday, and Armstrong, who left KU a year early to enter the draft, was one of 29 Big 12 players deemed worthy of an invite.

A 6-foot-4, 246-pound edge rusher from Houston, Armstrong projects as either a defensive end or linebacker at the next level and a second- or third-round draft pick.

Although Armstrong’s statistical production dipped during his final season with the Jayhawks (9.0 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks), his talent and potential continue to entice pro scouts.

A mock draft published Tuesday at projects Armstrong as a mid-second round pick. More than two months ahead of the draft (April 26-28), analyst Chad Reuter predicted the New York Jets will select Armstrong with the 17th pick in the second round (49th overall).

ESPN’s Scouts Inc. ranks Armstrong as the 64th-best player available and the ninth-best defensive end.

Draft guru Mel Kiper Jr., meanwhile, sees Armstrong as the second-best outside linebacker prospect on his big board. Kiper's ESPN cohort Todd McShay thinks Armstrong is the 10th-best defensive end.

The 2018 NFL Scouting Combine runs from February 27 through March 5, in Indianapolis. Workouts for defensive linemen and linebackers are scheduled for Sunday, March 4.

I don’t really have a favorite NFL team but really don’t want to see him on the Raiders, Patriots, Seahawks, or Ravens. Would be cool to see him on the Chiefs though just because they’re local. I’m assuming he’s rooting for the Texans?

Great talent. Hoping he can run a 4.58 and sneak into the late 1st round.

Chiefs need OLB in worst way. If we can get him with our 2nd rd pick I would be happy. Have him take Hali's place.
