Texas prep QB Locklin commits to KU football

Kansas University football recruiting

Less than 72 hours before Wednesday’s National Signing Day, the Kansas football program picked up a new commitment for its 2018 recruiting class Sunday night.

A dual-threat high school quarterback from Rockdale, Texas, Torry Locklin announced his intentions to join the Jayhawks via Twitter.

According to Rivals, Locklin is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound, two-star prospect.

Locklin reportedly had offers from Georgia Southern and New Mexico State, as well, with Iowa State showing some interest in him, too.

The addition of Locklin gives KU’s recruiting class its second quarterback, as he joins College of San Mateo (Calif.) product Miles Kendrick, another dual-threat QB.

In total, David Beaty and his staff have added 18 players to the 2018 class so far. Locklin is the eighth prep prospect in the group, thus far mostly comprised of junior college players, such as Kendrick.

KU was able to sign 14 prospects during the early period in December, and Kendrick joined the program at the start of the spring semester. Locklin, Louisiana linebacker Ryan Malbrough and Overland Park defensive end Miles Emery can make their non-binding verbal commitments to Kansas official as soon as Wednesday morning.

Clayton Tune finally committed to the Houston Cougars, paving the way for the "Lock from the Rock"! Lets hope he is as good as advertised. Lock Rock Chalk!

Definitely a dual threat. Last year he passed for about 2500 yards and 27 TDs (8 ints) and rushed for a whopping 2400 yards and 30 TDs. I'm surprised he didn't draw interest from more colleges, but he is on the small side. Regardless, we've all seen what small QBs can do.

It was sarcasm my friend. David Beaty has done a great job addressing this recruiting class and it will only work out anywhat poorly if we fire him and the next coach isn't well received by players.

What if we go 0-12 or 1-11 next year? Keep Beaty? Just curious.

Nope.

This year he will have had 3 full seasons to recruit and prove that not only can he bring in talent but develop that talent and surround himself with coaches that can help him win games.

I'd say 2/3 in non-conference is a requirement but firing midseason is a no go imo. If we win 3 games and compete in more, I'd keep him for a fifth season that says we should look like a bowl team or be one.

If we win 3 games and get obliterated in the rest, he has to go. You can win off a fluke, you don't compete in games off a fluke.

I don't know how good he is, but his HUDL video is good. We need such kids. He seems to be accurate & willing to run if he needs to.

Locklin won the State Championship game against many 4-star players and his dad is a former State football champ, college coach and now coach in the CFL

So win 3 games this year and not get blown out in all the others and keep your job yet again? I’m stunned at how low some have set expectations for the program. Actually, stunned, dismayed and saddened would all describe what I think of that attitude.

Give credit to the kid because he's smarter than the millionaires destroying the program on a daily basis.

He can come in, red-shirt while Beaty's JUCO army competes for playing time, get stronger, learn how collegiate programs operate (by watching films of other Big 12 schools) and, when Beaty and Co. get a #neatdeal termination notice, he'll be ready to compete for a spot when the new coach gets hired.

Smart kid. We could use more of his sort.

What's this "we" stuff, Brett. After all, you quit supporting KU football... or in your words: "I've notified my ticket sales guy that we won't be renewing next year and wished him luck, and also advised him to send his resume to a school that actually cares about football. There is nothing worse than watching a young man waste his career working for people who have either no clue or no concern about what they are doing.
This is a sad, sad day in KU football history. Really sad for me because it's the day I've said that enough is enough. I'm done."

Also, aside from the new QB's we have this year as recruits I still think Stanley should be the starter.
