Payne ties KU’s kills record, Jayhawks top Texas Tech

Kansas All-American senior Kelsie Payne tied the program’s career kills record and the volleyball team ended a two-game losing streak with a four-set road victory over Texas Tech at United Supermarkets Arena, 27-25, 25-14, 22-25, 25-22.

Senior Madison Rigdon had a team-best 19 kills, while Payne added 13 with a .312 hit percentage. Payne has 1,483 kills, which ties her with Josi Lima on the all-time list. Lima starred for the Jayhawks in 2002-05.

In the win, senior setter Ainise Havili had 45 assists while Allie Nelson recorded 20 digs. The Red Raiders (15-13, 4-11 Big 12) were limited to a .118 hit percentage.

The No. 16-ranked Jayhawks (22-6, 11-4) will play host to West Virginia in their regular season finale at 1 p.m. Nov. 25 at Horejsi Family Athletics Center.
