Lawrence resident Chris Thompson, a two-time golf All-American during his University of Kansas career, made it through the final stage of Q School to gain exempt status in the first eight tournaments on the Tour for 2018.

Thompson, 41, shot 71-66-65-69 to tie for 16th at 17-under par. Lee McCoy was low medalist at 28-under par and gained exempt status for all 27 tournaments. Golfers who finished second through 10th (plus ties) earned spots in the first 12 tournaments. Thompson missed that group by one stroke. The top 45 golfers among 144 who made it through the first two stages of Q School earned exemptions into the first eight events.

For the rest of the tournaments on the schedule, Thompson will need to be in roughly the top 100-to-120 range on the tour’s money list to gain automatic spots in tournaments.
